M. Ishii & Sons Woodblock Prints

M. ISHII & SONS, operated out of Motomachi, Yokohama, has been in business since 1955 selling original old and contemporary wood block prints as well as framed pictures. They have been participating in the Yokota Spouses’ Club’s Asian Bazaar since 1975 and return each year to share these wonderful artforms depicting the history and culture of Japan!

Do you know the term Ukiyo-e (浮世絵)? It is the actual name for this genre of original, old art where artists produced wood block prints and paintings expressing the interests of everyday people. The term actually translates as “picture of the floating world.” Different periods produced different styles and subjects, but the prints are easily recognizable.

Here is a samples from M. Ishii & Son’s current collection of Ukiyo-e and contemporary wood block prints!

EACH AND EVERY SALE AT THE BAZAAR SUPPORTS THE YOKOTA COMMUNITY. ALL NET PROCEEDS CONTRIBUTE TO THE YOKOTA SPOUSES' CLUB SCHOLARSHIP FUND AND OTHER WELFARE INITIATIVES. YOUR PURCHASES GO TO SUPPORT A VERY IMPORTANT CAUSE - WHEN YOU BUY, MAKE IT COUNT!
